More than just Mold Filling,
Shopping Basket.
MCS was commissioned
to work with a design team in order to design a shopping basket with a
side cup holder.
The actual basket has
bee modified in appearance to disguise the identity of the actual
basket. Although altered in appearance the simplified basket is sufficient
for this discussion.
The project started
with MCS performing stability simulations on preliminary models in order
to insure that an empty basket would not tip over when the cup holder is
in use.
Based on the
simulations, the basket material was redistributed to insure stability
under heavy cup holder usage.
Flow simulations were
then performed on the basket components in order to identify the
position and estimate the quality of resulting weld lines.
Structural analysis
were then performed and the results reviewed with the flow orientation
and weld line placement under consideration.
The results from the
structural analysis were used as feedback into design modifications to
affect weld line placement
As previously stated,
the act of injection molding greatly influences the performance of the
molded product, MCS looks at the entire situation, if commissioned to
'just' perform flow simulations, even if structural analysis is not
performed, MCS will help you understand the ramifications of the
selected gate locations or how the general flow conditions may affect
the structural performance of the product.
